This wasn't clear neither in some posts in this thread nor in pictures, sorry, but..the two creations have the sames references for moonbase projects so they show a similar config. 2001 Clavius:Imagefor example. Dommage, on attendra pour la Base Alpha:-)
I understand: in the Film, the interrest of the base is just the superb arrival of the Orion and the departure of the moonbus to the monolith site, more interesting, so, the entire base itselve isn't so shown...
Hard to model it, you are right, bravo for your work.

I've uploaded my hybrid Moonbase to the Motherlode :) . I can't tell when the guys at the Motherlode will find the time to make it available. Just be patient and check in the Fictional directory from time to time.

No worries... I know well how over loaded those good folks can get.

Thanks, Cham!

Nice work, and with the ground too. More comments later, but the Moonbase is a good idea, thanks! Jeam

Thanks for the moonbase Cham! It works fine as do the black holes, but that Tintin rocket causes Celestia (1.4.0 pre6) on my pc to hang up. It never gets to the rocket itself before it hangs. I was able to import it into 3DS Max V6 and look at the model, all 3 fins and cones are together as one. I moved them all to the correct places and exported the model as a different name, changed the mesh name in the ssc to look for that and it does the same thing. I can fly all around the moon, earth, etc, but as soon as I select Tintin and hit G it travels to it and hangs up. Only way out of the program is to end it in the task menu. Got any ideas? I'm not a 3D wizard (yet) so I don't fully know my way around 3d Max. My system specs are below if that helps. I do have the latest openGL drivers for my card installed. Pretty sure the model isn't filling up my memory since I can display other models with far more detail and filesize.

I can't help on this Tintin crashing problem. I don't have a single glitch with this rocket on my system. I don't think it's the model which hangs your system. Maybe something else around the rocket ? Maybe the file is corrupted ? Try redownload the rocket.

Hi cham, um there is a problem with your rocket, it does not work in celestia for me either, and for the mesh 2 of the 3 fins are missing.

thought you should know.

????? Weird ! I don't have this problem. Maybe the zip file is corrupted. I'll try downloading it.

I've downloaded the Tintin rocket and tried it on a eMac with Celestia 1.3.2, It works perfectly without a single glitch. So I suspect you have a problem with your OpenGL/video card drivers.

This is a pretty simple model with one 256 X 256 and one 512 X 512 pixels textures. Combined with the Earth and the Moon, maybe your video card has a problem.

Is anyone else able to use it without problem ? Anyother confirm the problem ? I'm unable to reproduce it.

Just tested the Tintin rocket, and works just fine on my system (Linux/GeForce 2MX).

With WinXP, a graphic card don't know to perform well (Sis Xabre200, machin truc jamais rien compris aux histoires d'opengl, et amha, c'est l?  que ca bloque, pas grave pour l'instant) It works well. (With the version by Scy I've dwled last week, the white squares on the rocket appeared a little beside the fuselage, iirc.)
Here's the 'Fus?©e Lunaire' in your Moonbase (for it, my card allows no textures or colors, but it is my card!)Image

I agree with ScyBladeghost, the model only shows one fin in 3DS max when imported.

Though there are 4 "fins" defined they are all clumped into one. I can separate them as such:

Anyway, I don't have a Mac or Linux system to test this out on, only Windoze XP Media Center Edition. All the other more detailed models of Cham's work fine, still scratching my head on this simple one :-) Celestia 1.4.0 pre 6 on XP still doesn't like that model and hangs up. That's the only one so far with that problem. Appreciate everyone's input and suggestions. It's not a big deal if it won't work, I just won't use it :-)

Yep, Tintin's rocket refuses to be displayed in XP. However, it can be rendered if you delete or rename it's texture, tintin.jpeg. I'm trying to repaint it, but I'm far from being an expert, and vertex colors remain a mistery to me. Sometimes they work on my computer, but most of the time I can only get grey models... :?

Jeam Tag,

I think your ambiant light is too strong. It's more realistic if you reduce ambiant light to almost the minimum value.

Importing the Tintin model into anim8or and then exporting it again produces a 3DS model that Celestia can use.

Converting it into CMOD format produces a usable model, too.

In both cases, no changes to the textures are required.

Thanks for that advice Selden, I'll try one or both of those ideas and see what happens.

As for the TinTin model I made, the reason for the offset is I accedentally reset the pivot point for the white checkers. This is why it renders out of place a bit. Thought I should mention that.

In case someone really care, I just uploaded a new version of my moonbase to the Motherlode. This new version has many more details on it, especially a parabolic antenna. I can't tell when it will be available on the Motherlode.

Cham, before I download the moon base, can it be used on any moon texture, or must it be part of a VT texture of the moon?

Frank
