How is it possible to change a star's color?

Post #1by Guckytos » 26.02.2005, 12:30

Hi Folks,

i have just one question. Is it possible to change the color of a star??

I know that there is now the "Texture" command in 1.4.0pre6 and it is quite nice a feature, but if i for example map a blue star texture over a red star i get a quite interesting view.
A star that has a blue core and the emtting light is red.
I came across this as i tried to create a green star and just mapped a green texture over a yellow star. Well that surprised me bit, and so i tried it with other textures as well.
So my question is, will there be also a command implemented into celestia to customize the color of the emitting light of a star?
Or is it already possible and i just don't know the command?

And do you think that is a feature that should be implemented??

Chris changed the way stars are drawn. In v1.4, their colors are determined by their spectral types rather than by their textures. I don't know of any way to change that. By default, the texture astar.jpg is used for all stars.

Thanks for the answer Selden, even if it is a bit sadening.

I would strongly advocate a method to be also able to customize the spectral color of a star, since we are already able to change a lot of its apperance.
So we could really make our own special suns.
Perhaps a parameter like SpectralColor could be introduced.

But that is just my two cents in this matter.

Yes... I agree with your great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think that doing a new extrasolar system with green, brown or pink star is a bad idea. This would make these extrasolar systems more interesting.
One day we will swim in the subsurface ocean of Europa and take shower in ethane lakes of Titan.
