Could someone PLEASE eliminate these new robot users. Their websites all point to porn stuff, some dangerous SEX-medicines or supercheap money resources ...

Maybe they are only registering so google can find their links in the memberlist.
Anyway, phpBB does support "Visual Confirmation", i.e. the user has to enter a code displayed as an image to register. It can quickly be enabled in the normal phpBB configuration (General Admin->Configuration->Enable Visual Confirmation), however I had to find out that this option only appears if the style used by the admin supports this - so the admin (i.e. Chris) may have to switch to subSilver style (the default phpBB style), do the change, and can then change back to whatever style he prefers afterwards.
This should help to reduce the number of bots considerably, if not completely.
Chris, what do you think?

Blacklists
Does phpBB support blacklisting of clients based on their IP address? If so, there ought to be some public (DNS-based) blacklist that could be employed (perhaps in addition to other measures), similar to MAPS RBL and other lists used to protect e-mail servers.

My forum has the latest phpBB, although I have never noticed this anywhere. Since my forum runs on phpBBserver, mine and other forums alike act as guinea pigs and are tested with the latest features for phpBB, it's fun trying them out.

BTW, phpBB-2.0.12 was released yesterday. There are a few security fixes too, so they recommend to upgrade.

Re: Posting Bots
Or if they do, let's hope they wish to participate in meaningful Celestia discussion, I think that may be asking just a little too much though.
