Completely REVISED Uranus Tour

Have just revised the tour of Uranus so that it should now meet with
the lighting requirements of all graphics cards. Also made the tour a
bit more interesting I think.

Can be downloaded from my web site, or the Motherlode as soon as
those extremely busy volunteers get around to updating the
thing.

Again, thanks very much to Harald and Ulrich for their spectacular
work on the Motherlode.

Hey, you can't just revise your Uranus Tour when I'm working on audiofying it! That gives me a lot of extra work. Hopefully you don't plan to touch your Venus and Neptune Tours.

Sorry, but I HAD to...

I didn't know that Pluto also rotates on its side until I got around to doing
the research for that tour. So, the Uranus Tour had some bad information in
it.

Also, I have realized, finally, that some graphics cards display absolutely
nothing when you're looking at the night side of a moon/planet, so
I corrected this too. Venus should be okay, but I haven't looked at
Neptune yet. :oops:

Just a note here concerning one Ulrich Dickmann - a.k.a. Adirondack...

Ulrich has educated me on how to package a tour so that it can be
relatively easy to install on anyone's machine now. I will forever more
be using Ulrich's packaging methodology to make my tours easier to install.

I have used his suggested approach on the revised tour of Uranus, and the
results (from e-mails I've received) have been 100% positive.

Many, many thanks to Ulrich for his suggestions on how to create and
distribute the tours. As soon as I can get to them, I'll be revising ALL of my
touring packages so that they will be easier to install on everybodiy's
machines.

Just wanted to let you know what a great resource we have on the
Motherlode with Ulrich's (and, of course Harald Schmidt's) voluntary
efforts with Celestia and the Motherlode web site.

Guys? Thanks very much for your help here. Was MUCH
appreciated.

Bob, thank you VERY MUCH for the scripts you've made.

I just want to let you know, that the Uranus script looks great when
I reduce ambient light AFTER the script has started. So I removed
the line in your script that sets it to 0.50. I can see all features
without ambient using your latest script version.

If I keep the ambient setting of 0.50, most bodies look heavily
overexposed with opengl 2.0 render path (may be a problem in
celestia). The older render paths look better, but on MY system
NO ambient works best in all render paths.

Please promise not to stop working on scripts!

System: SuSE Linux 9.1, GF 6600GT/AGP, driver 6629

Good point hjw...

Please feel free to modify the scripts in any way that makes them work
better on your machine. I have to use the initial settings on my
machine to get a good display, but - then again - I'm also using a low-end
PC which is about to die I'm afraid. :wink:

That's a good point though... I should perhaps add more comments to the
files to make certain that users know that they can change the
initial setting.
