Celestia and OS X 10.3.8
I'm still on OS X 10.3.3, and I hesitate to install the 10.3.8 update. Please, share your 10.3.8 experience here. Did you had any problems with this update ? And how is Celestia 1.4.0 behaving with it ?
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin", thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"

I went from 10.3.5 to 10.3.8 yesterday, and it went smoothly. It updated the nvidia drivers, which fixed a rendering bug (on rings), so now Celestia 1.4 runs better than it did.
Maybe you should take a look in Software Update for any ATI stuff before you start the download...

I have an iBook G3 with 640 MB RAM and a Radeon 7500 with 32MB RAM and 10.3.8 seems to have broken Celestia 1.4.0 pre 6 for me. Now I can only view low quality textures. If I select medium or high quality I get the problems that were posted about previously with the graphics appearing to be a mixture of icons from the desktop. I haven't tried re-installing yet but this may be an option.
{EDIT}
I should also say it seems to be a bit temperamental. I've now turned on high quality textures and the following happens: -
Sometimes the graphics problem is fine and other times it's as described above. I have a copy of the Celestia 1.3.2 Word document with the nice CEL links in. Clicking on some of these links results in either good or bad graphics being displayed. For example, I like the eclipse shadows and the one for Jupiter worked fine so I thought I'd try the one for the solar eclipse passing over Africa and this resulted in corrupted graphics. Restarting the program by clicking on the same CEL link results in nice clear graphics. It seems to be totally random (I think) whether I get good or corrupted graphics. Before on 10.3.7 I didn't have any of these problems.

Hi Cham,
I will RESPOND to you...
Well there is no problem on my G4 powerbook with the 1.4.pre6, go ahead without fear.
Rthorvald, went you say "it went smoothly" are you talking about rendering? I have noticed smoother textures in some case almost blurry... can you confirm?

I've had no particular problems with 10.3.8 (dual 2002 Quicksilver G4, Radeon 7500) running with the 1.4 prerelease. The OS updates include bug updates to Nvidia and ATI drivers, so it's probably a good idea to get them.
Lately, once in a blue moon I can even see the shadow of Saturn on its rings, though that's never worked very well for me.
