Thanks ;-) .

The constellation is from Celestia, of course and was first reduced
from 1600x1200 to a smaller size. The rest are a few
quick operations with Gimp2: add a new transparent layer to the
Celestia image. Select a big Font (100 pt) and map it onto a
circular section (including perspective) on that layer. Then I
added drop shadows to the letters and this glaring star
illumination. The latter two effects exist more or less as standard
macros. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes to make.

The real question is:

What resolution is your jupiter texture Fridger? It looks far more than the common available 2k version! Why don't I have it ?????

Maxim,

well Jupiter is indeed only a 2k texture. I made it quite a
while ago with lots of effort and it is no doubt the best
Jupiter texture available. But as you know, the planned
upgrade of my TextureFoundry has been recently
cancelled ...So it might not have been published after
all. Not my fault

It's the same texture as on my favourite splash image:

Europa is 8k and only improved but not mainly made by
me. To my shame I forgot who produced the first
version? Wasn't it you or perhaps Commander David ;-)

Dammit... it looked far bigger on the pic ;) Then it's the one I have too.

Not shure about the best. But it's not the most hires. (Bjoern?) Jonnson claims to have a 5k size one. I mailed him to asked for it, but he seems to be not reachable.
I need something to place my hires red spot and brown storms closeup onto.

Well, if you use the right perspective, you can save on the resolution...

you might have misunderstood. My own texture is 2k and I am more than happy with it ;-)

David,
I also have a 2k one. But the best one made out of the voyager picturing tiles is 5k. That one I would need.

Herr Doctor Doctor Professor Fridger Schrempp?

My German professor in college had that title he said (with a bit of mirth) - Herr Doctor Doctor Professor Hans Braendlin...a truly cool dude (he didn't fail me!)...

Again - Happy New Year and a marvelous pic, Fridger!

Thanks for the wishes.

You got things the wrong way around: since the PhD is
considered part of the name (rather than being a job
designation), it always comes closest to the name.

So it should read e.g. Herr Professor Dr. Dr. Braendlin ;-) .
