I tried to make the Celestia 1.3.2,but the folowing appeared "Fatal error:cannot read stardatabase.I perform another instalation of Celestia 1.3.2 in another folder and there it works very well, then I copy and paste the stars.dat in the original folder, but even like this,it didn?t work.It was unexpectable, because 3 days before today,it was working flawlessly.
I think I accidentaly put the file to open as a Window Media Player, but I changed to WordPad and still didn?t work.
Repeating:
The same file worked in a new folder, but not in Celestia 1.3.2 original.
I don?t know what to do.Can you give me a help?
Fatal error: Cannot read stardatabase
Stars.dat is a binary file.
If you opened it in Notepad or WordPad, then you have destroyed it. Notepad and WordPad only work properly with plain text files.
Also, you must use the correct version of stars.dat.
Don't forget that the version of stars.dat that comes with v1.3.2 is NOT compatible with v1.4.0, and the version of stars.dat that comes with v1.4.0 is NOT compatible with v1.3.2.
You have the choice of finding and downloading the appropriate stars.dat from SourceForge, or you can reinstall another copy of the appropriate version of Celestia and copy it from there.

Selden:
Please, I use the bigstars.dat add-on file from Pascal Hartmann that includes 1,100,000 stars. I have just discovered that it will no longer work in 1.4.0. What a BUMMER!!!
How do you/I/someone else convert it or reload it for use in 1.4.0? I have absolutely no idea how to make a star.dat file.
HELP!!
Frank
PS: Pascal, do you have any plans to redo your add-on???

Frank,
I mentioned the incompatibility to Pascal a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, he won't be able to do anything about it in the near future, certainly not until after the holidays at the very earliest.
One problem is that he runs Celestia on a Mac, so he doesn't have access to v1.4.0 at all.

I installed the newest verison of stars.dat and the program itself works. But the render path didn?t.When I tried to press Control-V,the Celestia 1.3.2 crashes.Doesn?t mean that the present version(v.1.22) of stars.dat is not suitable for Celestia 1.3.2?If it is the case, which version I have to downloaded?
Render path has nothing directly to do with the stars database.
If Celestia starts OK but crashes when you type Ctrl-V, then that usually means that your device drivers are broken. Something in your field of view is causing Celestia to ask them to do something that they should be able to do but can't.
Rename your current directory named Celestia to be something else. Install Celestia v1.3.2 from scratch into a directory named Celestia. Do NOT modify anything.
Run that newly installed Celestia and type a Ctrl-V.
What happens?

Daniel,
Sorry: I don't know what your problem might be, because I don't know what you mean by "downloaded".
There are too many ways of accessing the URLs for stars.dat that could be described as "downloaded" but which won't work.
The safest thing to do is just to reinstall Celestia v1.3.2 from scratch and then move your Addons into the new folder.
Anything else just wastes everybody's time.
Sorry.
