Just to see whether it would increase speed a little bit:
I was wondering whether someone has build a 64-bit executable
of Celestia for windowsXP - 64 and if so
would he/she be willing to share this exe ?
The latest version of WindowsXP-64 is beginning to stabilize,
allready supporting a good deal of openGL !!

Celestia build for windows-64
Which hardware platform? IA-64 or 64bit IA-32?
(Not that I have access to Win64, I'm just wondering.)
Don't forget that there are two different Win64 platforms: Itanium (IA-64) and Opteron/Nacoma (64bit extensions to IA-32).
Itanium code won't run on IA-32.
And Intel has deprecated and HP is discontinuing IA-64 workstations, although not IA-64 servers.

*sigh*

I am not sure about the extensions,
I am using an AMD Athlon-64 processor,
does that autimatically mean I have an 64 bit IA32 platform ??
Ren?
By the way: Celestia seems to run a bit faster on the 64bit
windows platform even when compiled for the normal 32-bit code,
the AMD has the ability to run 64bit code alongside 32bit code.
Optimizing for 64 bit should bring more speed improvement ,
can't wait until also the video-drivers will be optimized for 64-bit.

Yes, AMD added 64 bit instructions to their implementation of IA32 (also known as the x86 architecture) to make the Athlon-64 and equivalent CPUs. Intel has announced that their version of that extended architecture, which essentially is a copy of AMD's version, will be available RealSoonNow.
Win64 has been available for Intel's 64bit Itanium chipset for quite some time and is just now becoming available for testing on AMD's 64bit chips.
Although they have twice the numeric performace of the IA32 chips at the same clock speed, IA64 chips cost about 4x as much. Their instruction set is incompatible, too. As a result, let's just say that they haven't been selling very well, unlike AMD's 64bit chips.
