ElPelado,

I was just pointing out that Celestia will run better if every component of your system is as fast or has as much capacity as you can afford. It runs on slower and smaller systems, too, of course, like mine :)

Hello Jestr, one very little bug, that you can see in this image:

Image

There is a partial while line (I suppose at the congiuntion of the texture sides).
The tube door is in the lower part of the picture. 8O

Cham wrote:I understand your point, and you are right. The new model is really huge. On my system, it's really painfully slow too. Maybe the size and slowness of that model are too much, for the added details compared to the other one. But it's an alternative for people which are having a very good system (I mean a fast one).

I agree.

Please understand that I was NOT trying to say that the model shouldn't
have been created. I'm just saying that *I* can't use it very well. No
problem though. Jestr's talents should take him wherever he wants to go.

Thanks, Bob

Sure are a lot of old geezers in the world today...

Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time and/or the funds to upgrade
right now. And if I did, my PC would just be out of date again next week, so
I try to work with what I have. So far, I enjoy Celestia as much as anyone
who owns a top-of-the-line computer.

Thanks, Bob

OK,I hope I have the mirror sussed now. Here's a few snaps of the latest version of Hubble.
Image
as you can see I have added the spyder arms and secondary and primary mirrors (and the hole is hidden)
Image
Not sure if the mirrors should be shiny or not?I've gone with the not option.
Check them out here-

I'v tested ths on my system useing 3 video cards and the results are not surpriseing. My system specs are:

Windows XP Home SP2
1.6ghz CPU
512MB DDR RAM
80GB HardDrive

GeForce 2 MX
64MB VRAM
Average: 6fps
3fps to 8fps

GeForce FX 5200
128MB VRAM
Average: 23fps
18fps to 30fps

GeForce FX 5900
256MB VRAM
Average: 52fps
32fps to 66fps

The next benchmark was from a different system with different specs and an insanely powerfull video card:

Windows XP Home
2.3ghz CPU
1024MB DDR RAM
130GB HardDrive

GeForce 6800 Ultra
256MB VRAM
Average: 83fps
73fps to 127fps

No doubt the last one left you all drooling

Hello Jestr, you are going to perfection! :D
One advice only: the gray color of spyder arms, the ring that retains them and the secondary mirror cage should be very darker, not so far from black.
About the mirror shining or not, well, I agree with you, the mirror reflects the sky, and at HST's orbit, far from atmosphere, the sky is dull black. 8O
So, regarding the model... well done! :D
Thank you very much for your work and courtesy.

Thanks for comments,I decided to make the spyder arms lighter so that they were visible against the darker background, otherwise it is all quite dark, they are still hard to see sometimes,Jestr
