Hi,
i downloaded the version 1.3.1-1 Suse_8.x from the download here on shatters.net. But, unfortunately, there are some problems with it. I have big trouble with addons. So, i found seldens how-to, try to follow it, but nothing works, even not the simple example of "HIP 500000". Ok, what to do? Hmm, reading the bug thread of the forum makes a good idea. There i found, somewhere deep, an answer from selden: klick "help, about" to find the version number. I do that and, what the hack, celestia shows me 1.2.4 ???????
Let me ask you one thing. With the download of 1.3.1-1 and the same rpm database name i installed the version 1.2.4 ??
Maybe someone is able to help, thx
Mfg
Meeting the trap with Suse 8.1
Testi,
Exactly what Web page on Shatters.net contains the link that you used? Obviously that needs to be fixed.
However, you might try downloading directly from SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21302
This link should take you directly to the Suse distribution: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21302&package_id=104952&release_id=206023

Hi selden,
i followed the link from the celestia homepage, download, SuSE 8 RPMS (1.3.1 only right now, 1.3.2 coming soon) with the url:

Testi,
try to make sure what celestia is FIRST in your PATH. Possible places are
/usr/bin, /usr/local/bin, etc.
I'm using SuSE 9.1, but I never installed the rpm's but compiled from source, so I don't
know the places where the rpm's install celestia.
Try 'which celestia' -- this should show you the binary that is started if you just
enter 'celestia'.
Try 'locate celestia' (if installed) to locate celestia installations on your filesystem. Check if
there are more than one.
If you have multiple celestia installations, e.g. binaries in /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin,
try /usr/bin/celestia and /usr/local/bin/celestia (full path) and check which one is
the release you want to use.

Hi,
@hjw
thx for the helping hand. For unknown reason, Suse keep the /usr/bin/celestia, while i remove the whole package. Doesn`t matter what package i install, Suse allways started the /usr/bin/celestia.
@selden
sorry for making you nervous, my faulth, ermm, Suse's faulth. I'll continue testing and be back, if something new.

Hi,
sorry for the long "timeout". I tested a lot of examples, but at least there is no solution for Suse8.1 ( and before) users. Versions above 1.2.4 don`t work. I update my system to Suse9.1, use Celestia 1.3.1 and everything works great right now. I want to say thanks to all helpers, espacialy to selden. With your help, from your helpful site, even the addons work great for me now.
