Currently I have onhand several unfinished projects that I have put on hold for the time being previously due to the constraint my old job had on my creativity> The list of projects that I have to release in the coming month are as follows...
* Hellconia System (Space station avernus still needs to be constructed. If anyone is familiar with the Hellconia series and might want to give that a shot pm me here and let me know)
* rndssc (Still has a few minor bug fixes and other features I want to add before I finalize this project. Currently has no set date for release but I am hoping by the end of September)
* Gateway 2 Mystica System in the Skellion Galaxy is a current project I am working on. I have made use of Runar's modeling skills to construct some rather interesting cities as seen below in the link I provided. This I plan on releasing here shortly. The dome is my addition (I preferred an enclosed biosphere over atmospheres..it seemed to look better imho)

Anyways thats all I have for now...More to come Im sure...
Gateway 2 is coming and a few more tidbits...

I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

Hmmm, the Helliconia trajectory is a particular one... long, long seasons and very great changes with the planet map, no?...
This trilogy is a great one, nice to see this universe in Celestia. Don't remember what the Avernus observatory looks like , but i know that you could model a nice one, Rass' ...

(many years ago, I've just drawn the fagor species to illustrate an article about Helliconia, but not the terrestrial craft...)

UWV map or texture mapping based on coordinates such as a spherical wrap, planar wrap etc...What modeling program are you using? They may call it something else but basically its texture mapping. You could try different wrapping techniques and see what fits best...Being an oblong shape might pose a problem though...but you should be able to apply a mapping technique no matter the texture dimensions save its a standard Celestia format (power of 2) to seem less stretched. Sometimes it is far better to screen capture your asteroid in the modeling program (both sides) and manipulate your texture accordingly in your painting program. I would use a 2048 x 1024 texture and paste the two sides, one on the left and one on the right. Then draw or maipulate a cratered texture to appear spherical on each of those sides. You may have to use a mask of each side to acheve this. Masking the sides then applying a spherical filter may or may not work. Use an offset to get rid of your seams. I know that flaming pear's flexify tool may be the answer without all the extra crap above...
The basic idea of texture mapping is trying to apply a texture that conforms to the shape of your object. This is the hardest part of modeling.
As for its shape it looks like a bone!
