I like the CTRL-G feature, as to view from the ground on a single keypress. But after using this alot, I found it would be quite useful if you were able to display an on-screen compass as to know which way I was facing; though the methods to be able calculate this is beyond me.
Also when tracking (key-t) an object from the surface, would be nice if it were possible to lock the horizontal tilt as to match the observers surface.
Keep up the good work on such an amazing product...

Have you tried turning on the "Celestial Grid" ?
(Type a semicolon ";" or select it in the Render/View Options menu.)
This causes the Equatorial Coordinate system to be drawn on the sky. It'll show you where the North and South poles are, for example. It's not quite as good as an Alt-Az compass coordinate system, but maybe it'll help.
