Age of Milky Way = Age of Universe?!

Post #1by Evil Dr Ganymede » 17.08.2004, 23:14

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3573914.stm

This claims that the Milky Way Galaxy is 13.6 Ga.

Isn't that supposed to be how old the Universe is? I found a followup article claiming the universe was actually 14.7 Ga in age, but I've not seen anything else related to that so I don't know whether that's been accepted or not..

A german article on this topic explains that the theories for the age of the universe (13.7 Ga) still allow for tolerance values of +-800 Ma. So we're still within the limits.
