Hardware requirements

Does anyone have an idea what the actual hardware requirements are for Celestia? (The website says "a Pentium-class" machine, but nothing more specific). I want to download this game, but only if I know it'll work on my machine.

I have a 200 MHz machine with a 16MB 3DFX video card, 96MB of total system memory, running Windows/95 OSR2.

Thanks!
Marty

Celestia will work just very-very slow ;)
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

I wouldn't be too sure of that, as the opengl implementation can be buggy for these old cars.

hi,

you should use the low-res textures on a low resolution (640x480) and with all the special effects off ... it should run smoothly then ;)

It should be possible to run Celestia on your configuration with a reasonable frame rate:

1. Download the version of Celestia with low resolution textures (or if you have the normal version, press r to use low res textures.)
2. Use the default settings for number of stars
3. Don't use Bruckner's 7000 asteroid add-on :>

Hi everybody,

For reference on slow machines, i use a 420 MHz AMD-K6-2 w/ 256 MB RAM & a Voodoo-3-350 card under W2k. It's OK far from any textured body but zooming is really painful. It's a little better in lowres but even that gives a 5-10 FPS max.

Anyway, don't know OpenGL so well. Is there any driver or so that could be updated for taking the card into account & boosting perfs ?
