Installing Scripts

How do you install scripts? I downloaded a celx script which will launch Celestia just fine from the download folder, but when I run it from within Celestia, I grt the following fatal error:

:16:attempt to call method 'newposition'(a nil value)

How do you install scripts?

Not at all... They should run from pretty much everywhere without installing.

What script? What version of Celestia?

Are you sure you are using the same version of Celestia both times?

I have just now come to realize that the program at the official site is not the latest and greatest. I just found 1.3.2pre8, and it works.

Actually, 1.3.1 is the latest "final" release. Everything after that is a "pre-release", which basically means it has new features, some bug fixes here and there, etc. Pre-releases are normally fairly stable, except for brand new features, which sometimes don't work as expected on all platforms, or might even break previous functions that did work properly.

The current pre-release is 1.3.2 pre11, and is available here:

Hi Don,

I figured that prelease meant beta, but I wanted Harald's script. Now I need to figure out how to use Celestia as a planetarium. The German manual describes it, but my German is not that good.

I'm at 33.88 North Lat, so when I pick 56.12 N Lat and hit CTRL-G, I wind up on the surface with the horizon at my zentih, but I cannot control the azimuth nor altitude of my view.

I can go to my true position and hit CTRL-G, like the manual says, but I wind up a 56.12 N Lat. Seems like CTRL-G swings your radial 90degs.

The FAQ is very near the top of the Celestia Users Forum Web page. Right now it's the 5th item from the top of that page.

Hi Adirondack,

The Celestia home page did not have an English guide, and I can muddle through everyday German....Soooo I gave it a try. I finally located an English version which does not cover use as a planetarium, like the german guide.

It is sometimes hard enough to decipher technical English, let alone technical Deutsch! Besides, when the German manual said to stand on my head, that was fine , but I couldn't figure out how to di it!
