Erroneous star group?

Post #1by ajtribick » 03.08.2004, 15:22

Following a point raised about the distance to Psi Serpentis raised in this post, I decided to take a look.

It seems that three stars have been grouped in the generation process. These are:

Psi Serpentis (HIP 77052)
HD 140527 (HIP 77043)
HD 140489 (HIP 77034)

SIMBAD gives the parallaxes of these stars as

Psi Serpentis - 68.16 [0.87]
HD 140527 - 3.17 [1.38]
HD 140489 - 5.64 [0.96]

All three stars have been assigned the parallax of HD 140489.

Incidentally, SIMBAD does not give the luminosity class of HD 140527, but if the given parallax is correct then it is highly unlikely to be class V, which appears to be the default assigned if no information is provided.
