Earth VT for Space Elevator

Post #1by rthorvald » 26.07.2004, 18:52

Hello, all
I?m planning to customize the Hroenn Space Elevator for the Earth. But i want it to merge completely into the landscape, which means i?ll have to create a very detailed VT city/industrial landscape around the base, then fit this seamlessly into an existing VT.

Now, i have the 32k Bluemarble, and can build it from there - but i?m not going to create an entire 32k VT earth, i?d rather patch this into an existing one, and that won?t look good if i start off with a different base image. Suggestions? I am looking for a realistic Earth, not any of the over-saturated blue ones. Something like a VT of one of Don Edward?s maps...

One thing, though: i can?t use DDS textures; there are no tools known to man that can edit those on a Mac. Jpgs, pngs, anything else is Ok.

Hello Runar,
Could you not use Graphic Converter or Gimp.app to at least edit the file in the format of your choice and then export as DDS?

Don't really know what I am talking about....

Hm, no, the problem is getting it into Photoshop in the first place. The NVIDIA plugin only works for the Win version. It might be that Graphicconverter can import DDS now, it could not before... Will investigate.
