Apollo7,

Turn on the "console log": type a tilde (~). It should include an error message saying which shader routine is missing. You may have made a typo.

Haze isn't "broken", it hasn't been implemented. It is one of several "eye-candy" features that are visible only if you have an Nvidia card. It has not been coded in Celestia for any other types of cards. Chris simply hasn't had the time to write the necessary "arb" vertex shader routines, only the "nv" routines. The other major "eye-candy" that you're missing is smooth shading of ring and eclipse shadows, which requires an Nvidia FX 5200 card or better.

Well I can not blame Chris for lack of trying, however I do play many games and the Radeon card was the best choice for me, the lack of ring shadows, haze and other effects is unfortunate, but, I'll have to make do without them I CAN use high-res textures and get alot of pretty looking stuff I had just gotten used to a level of eye-candy that is now no longer possible due to my vid-card selection.

I will reinstall pre8 and see what I can do, the one thing I was really missing was ring-shadows on Saturn and other planets, I don't know why that stopped working as it worked before with my ATI card. I'll check this stuff out, thanks.

Addendum, thought I'd give a brief update here.

I installed Celestia 1.3.2Pre8 and used the tilde key to check the output, no mention was made of missing shaders. I also checked the Shader loadout between 1.3.1 and 1.3.2pre8. Indeed pre8 has more shaders yet is somehow less capable.

I find that whereas the OpenGL Vertex shader program will work with 1.3.1 it is broken in 1.3.2pre8, there are no missing shaders from 1.3.1 in 1.3.2pre8 that I can see, and so its quite puzzling why the feature would suddenly be disabled. ANy thoughts?

Vertex shaders won't work at all if Celestia fails to load even one of them. Soon, I'll make another prerelease available that contains all the shaders. Sorry for the screw up  I need be less lazy about testing these prerelease packages from now on.

Well I don't mind waiting, but what about this? what if I removed all the extraneous shaders from 1.3.2pre8 and whittled the list down to only the ones available in 1.3.1 and then loaded Celestia, might that at least be a temporary fix?
