I enjoyed so much your start.cel that I included the three shadows script both in my next "eclipses and occultations" script, and at the end of Bob's Jupiter Tour, with some little additions that in my opinion can give more feeling of what is happening during that phenomenon. :)

Don, I was speaking of the start.cel with the three Jupiter moons eclipses, whose I don't know who is the author, because I supposed it was yours. :?

Meanwhile, this gave me the opportunity to give a look at YOUR start.cel in 1.3.2pre8, that I didn't see before, so my compliments are moved to your work on THIS cel file, very exhaustive and clear, a true scripting aid. :D

I believe that the 3 eclipse start that you used to create the cel you are using was originally posted by me. You have really created a fantastic cel file and I congratulate you.

I also posted, some time ago, the following .cel file to be used as a start.cel. Would you like to consider doing your magic on this basic file.

Hello HS, sorry for my wrong interpretation on the author. :oops:
My school children will be very pleased with the final result, that would have never been done without your .cel file. :D
As soon as I'll be back home I'll give a look at your Pan .cel file, and surely I'll include in Bob's SaturnTour file that I'm using (with some changes) for the school shows.
By the way, I have too made a little add-on to this SaturnTour, showing the rings from Saturn's surface.

home with me to see if my limited machine can make some use of them. :wink:

Can this file be had separately from your website? Or, must I change my Celestia
SSC file and proceed using Celestia? Would just like to see the revised tour.

But I have to make some changes, because my cel scripts are located each one in a different Solar System (all with G type suns, obviously), because I don't like to use alternate textures. :oops:
Moreover they are all in Italian language, so I need some time to make the translations. 8O

You don't have to go to all that much trouble... I just wanted to view the revised
tour. If you can just e-mail me the cel file, that would be fine. Or, just point me to
the location where I can download the file? I can always translate it myself
if I have a question.

Finally, labels of solar system objects can now be occluded by objects in front of them--I'm very interested in feedback on this.


ok this seems to be causing a little weirdness, here are a couple of examples:

go to the Huygens spacecraft (which is incidently listed twice?) and rotate around it slowly, watching the yellow dish to the side - for me it sometimes disappears behind the body of the craft when it should be passing by in front, quite an odd effect.

also, turn on orbits and go to the earth. now look at the orbits of earth's various satelites and you'll see they're getting 'masked out' by the planet itself where they should be in front of it.

cheers for the update though, lots of nice little improvements.

This is an artefact caused by Celestia's difficulty cropping models appropriately when they're close to each other - Chris reports he has plans to improve that after 1.3.2. Huygens is listed twice because it occurs twice in the ssc - once in association with Cassini, and once when released from Cassini and in "free flight".

I've just installed the Celestia 1.3.2pre8 update, and while I'm mostly impressed with the results, I've noticed a few disturbing factors impacting the visual presentation of the program. First off I am running An Athlon 64 3000+ System with 512MB of DDR3200 RAM and an ATI Radeon 9600XT video card. With previous versions of Celestia this setup has proven to be quite adequate, however with 1.3.2pre8 I feel as though either my system is suddenly inadequate or something has changed with the program.

For instance, Ring-shadows are no longer cast on Saturn, Titan lacks the bluish haze that once defined its limb, true the models look nice but I find now that I only have two options when considereing my render-path: Basic and Multitexture. Whats up, have I done something wrong, or is the software changing? Let me know.

Some of the vertex shading routines are missing from the directory /shaders/. Hopefully this will be fixed in pre9. You need to download texphong_arb.vp from Sourceforge.

People with Nvidia cards need to download a few others, too.

See http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/celestia/celestia/shaders/?sortby=date#dirlist. The missing shaders are the newest ones, at the top of the list. Today they have an age of 2 months:

Copy them into the Celestia /shaders/ directory.

Just copy them to the folder \shaders\ which is in your Celestia directory.
Celestia will read them and load them into your graphics card.

Thanks for the replies, however, I did just what you said and it produced no effect, on 1.3.2pre8 I'm stuck with simple basic and multitexture rendering paths, no matter what I put in my shaders folder. 1.3.2pre6 allows me to use the Vertex shaders but haze is still broken. Haze is also broken in 1.3.1 with my ATI Radeon 9600XT card (It was not previously with my Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (By Asylum).

I downloaded the shader(s), put the proper suffixes, be they fp or vp, I was sure not to save them as HTML, I placed them in the Celestia 1.3.2pre8 folder and found nothing, same goes for all versions of Celestia back to 1.3.0.

I used an OpenGL extensions checker, and at least it -says- I'm 100% compliant with Open GL 1.4 and previous versions, but it would seem that everything is still broken, I wonder what gives?
