Hey Chris...
Hey Chris...
I had a really intense idea on sound...to keep it more realistic...space would be silent, but planets would have thier own ambience...If you could add this, that would be cool...
might work, i have seen this done before on space programs. they usually go for a faint deep rumbling sound when in orbit. depends how much of a purist you are i suppose. celestia does seem to lack the full multimedia effect without sound. you could probably get away with at least thruster sounds when using the flight controls. in any case you can always switch the sound off if you don't like it.
True, I think that the sounds are best heard when approacing the planets atmosphere...or entering it you wil begin to hear the rushing wind etc...
Also Chris, if you do something like this, make sure you allow us to add our own ambient sounds to planets...
Something like this...
soundFile = "name.wav"
minFlux = float << can be used to give the sound more fluctuation...
maxFlux = float
The sound being heard as it enters the atmosphere would be coded in as would the actual fluctuation of the sound; depending on the cloudSpeed...The faster the cloudSpeed, generally the more quick the sound fluctuates and the base volume would then intensify -vs- the less amount of cloudSpeed could cause the sound to be very faint...

I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!
Sounds
I think it would be great to have sounds in Celestia. Please consider doing this. I feel there should be an option to turn sound on and off. With a different looped wav file for F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7 and A volume up, Z volume down, and thruster sounds for the keyboard arrow keys for maneuvering sound effects. This would add additional realism to the program as you're traversing the solar system and nearby stars. I have some sound effects in wav file format that I could send you if you're interested. Again, please consider putting this into the program. Thanks.
Sound
I also think it would be great to have sounds in Celestia. If there is an option to turn sound on and off. then you dont have to have it on if you dont want to. Also sound will not use up any performance of the cpu. unless your using less then a p233. I feel having sound would definitely add additional realism and dimension to the program. Please add sound effects.
Wish List
Will there be sound in next ver. 1.2.3 ? I think this would be a
great addition to an allready great program. Just a thought
but how about a unique low freq. rumble for for each key F2 & F3,
F4 - F7 low & high freq. echo rumble sounds unique to each key.
also keypad thruster sounds. and change in volume up for A key.
down in volume for Z key. with option to turn sound on or off alt-S.
Sounds could be in mp3 or wav file format for easy editing. Please consider adding these features to Celestia. Thanks for making
such an awesome program!!

One day I will get round to registering for this forum...
I agree, the Star Trek sounds would work really well. I'm suprised no-one seems to yet have suggested (correct me if I'm wrong) the warp drive when you travel to a distant object (say more than 1 light year)
On another topic I would greatly like a flight sim mode which uses the mouse instead of the keyboard/joystick.
