Celestia is my favorite soft

Hello folks.

I'm here at work, and I have 10 minutes in a pause to write in the forum.

After about four months using Celestia, I'm now in a position to make a claim :

Celestia is now my all time favorite application.

In all my computer life, I had few apps that I liked very much. Here they are, in historical order :

1- Nisus, a word processing application made for the Mac.
2- Expressionist, a Math expression editor, on the Mac.
3- FreeHand 3.1, an old drawing tool (but I hate to death the newest versions).
4- Quake 1.
5- Quake 3.
6- Celestia.

About 1, 2, and 3, actually, they are only important tools for my work. I'm not using them for entertainment or pleasure. They are still more important to me than Celestia, but this has nothing to do with the subject.

I love Quake 1 and 3 because of all the custom maps you can find on the net. They are "open" games with an unlimited life and I like their "atmosphere", "look and feel", etc. However, those apps doesn't beat Celestia, which is to me the clear winner. Over the years, Quake 1 and 3 (together) raised up to 2 full GB on my HD, but Celestia raised to almost 2 full GB in only 4 months !

Well, how do you compare Celestia with your other favorite stuff ? Any opinions ?

Dear Cham:

I am almost embarrassed to admit that not only is Celestia my favorite piece of software, but it is one of the key ways I unwind and ignore all the #^$%(&# bull "S" in the world. From the depressing nightmare of watching George W. Bush pay his dangerous games, to the sorry state of the world's environment and ecosystems, I need a good trip into space and a quiet cruise among the stars to maintain my sanity. I don't watch TV (watching Donald Trump fire a bunch of idiot people each week or viewing squirming girls eat worms on Fear Factor is NOT my idea of entertainment). Celestia is my balm.

Noting harmfull can come out of Celestia. It's just about pure poesy.

I have dreamt of this software for over 20years...Now, it's destroying my life...no sleep, an insomniac creating a comfortable padded room in his mind with its walls disappearing into this wonderous place we call 'universe'...I love it...This software is the most fascinating of all softwares. It has so much to offer.

Celestia... not only one of my all time favourite pieces of software, but a true education. I've learned more about astrophysics in the last year than in the previous ten. I've started programming again. I've learned the deeper functionality of graphics packages. And above all I've seen the shape of the near universe.

All because of a free piece of software that disconnects you from the mundanities of life, and takes you higher.

Long live Celestia...
