Best tilesize for small objects

What is the most memory-efficient tilesize for virtual textures, when applied to very small objects - say, an asteroid?

This is two questions in one:

1: i assume 512x512 is Ok for the actual tiles?

2: what tilesize value is then best to write in the CTX entry?
