How difficult would it be to override specific data elements in the provided SSC files, with an "override.ssc" file placed in the extras directory, which would be used by the user for SSC file modifications?
This would allow the user to add/modify SSC file settings to their heart's content, and as directed by add-on developers, without losing any of these additions/changes when they installed a newer version of Celestia.

Actually, this would allow users of your scripts to change the ring numbers, ring file name, and add new InfoURL links -- all without modifying their original ssc file.
