Ring Shadows and Atmosphere

Although I think this problem existed in previous releases, it is especially apparent now with darker ring shadows. The shadows do not darken the atmosphere as they likely should.

As we saw in cassini's image, the shadows that the rings cast on the planet are very dark...

ElPelado,

Kolano is referring to the ring of atmosphere that Celestia draws around the edge of the planet's image. Where the surface is dark, that ring should be dark, too, but it is not.

Look closely at the edge of the planet at the upper right. The edge is bright all along the curve of the planet, even though it should be dark in the shadow of the rings.

It's a distracting artifact . . . I haven't decided exactly how to fix it. It'll probably have to wait until my upcoming rewrite of the atmosphere rendering code.
