32k Earth Normal ?

Away from some announcements there doesn't seem to be more than an 8k earth normal map on the web - or do I miss something?

I need a small 2k or 4k normal map in dds (not jpg). This is to use with my default texture (2048 x 1024), and my video card doesn't support bump map or normal map above 1k, in jpeg or png format. :-(

Anyone able to make a good (non-blocky) 2k normal map in dds, please ?

I've made a much better 32k Normal texture out of GTOPO data although I might have exaggerated the shadows a little, you can only get it from my FTP site above though I'm afraid,Jestr

I've found a 4k and 2k versions. Download them here.
That's a temporary link, so let me know we you'll have downloaded it.

Sure, here you are, just click the link mentioned above. I removed the link thinking Ptarmigan helped you... Anyway, let me know when you'll have downloaded it.

I tried both files, 2k and 4k.

The 4k version doesn't work, I dunno why. I get a flat texture only.

The 2k version works, but it isn't accurate. There's a "border" around all continents, which isn't right. And it becomes very blocky at a close range.

Can you make a BumpMap version in dds (not NormalMap) ? I can send you a 2k BumpMap version in jpg (I don't have the tools to make a conversion myself).

:(

Try again now,My FTP prog keeps shutting itself down for some reason, but its not on my computer, when I notice I start it again.its strange it will work for days on end with no problems ,other days it keeps turning itself off after a few hours, other than this it should be on around the clock,Jestr

Ok, I'm on now.

If you still have your sources, wouldn't you mind to make a .png version?

Ugh, thats why it throw me out!

I need the normals for a technical texure that has pure monochromatic areas and sharp edges. So I`m afraid that every small jpeg artifact could be noticable.

I`ll try again now.
