Of course, I immediately had the thought that Celestia ought to be able to fall back from the hires to medres to lores texture as a body recedes into the distance, thus saving it video RAM... on the other hand, that would require standardizing the relative sizes of these things!

Altogether the sort of thing that shows up mainly in the idle thoughts of people who are not actually planning on doing the implementation...
