outter planets >2k textures

Post #1by MindToAsk » 07.12.2003, 09:58

Where can I find textures larger than 2k for the outter planets (and moons)? I heard about a 8k texture for Saturn's rings.

Hello MindToAsk

A great source for many Celestia add-ons, including planet textures is Mike M's (Billybob884) site http://mikecelestia.bravehost.com/index2.htm ...however at the current time I think he is reorganising it, so there are no download links at present. I'm sure they'll be done soon?......Mike?

The original source for the 8k Saturn rings is on Jens' (Jims) site, (he also has some outer planet textures);
http://home.arcor.de/jimpage/
and well worth having they are too! Although quite a lot of us are having problems running the 8k size ring texture, there are also 4k and 2k versions which still look fine.

regards

The rings that you speak of, belong to Jens
and can be found here  http://home.arcor.de/jimpage
But be warned, this texture will not work at 8k with Celestia 131-P11

you will also find a 4k IO texture there too.

John also has some larger textures too
here  http://68.42.66.157/JohnsCelestiaPage/modules/news/

But again be warned, the textures are uncompressed PNG's
and are very large downloads

Also the web site is only available a few hours a day.

If you want the 4k version of Jens Rings, just say so and ill post it to you.

Sorry Paul, I just sneaked in my reply before yours. I was just going to mention John Van Vliets site but you've already done that for me, cheers!

It?s a shame, but there are only bigger than 2k textures for Jupiter, galilean moons and Triton.Only this!I don?t know why since Saturn was saw with great detail either with Voyager or Hubble. Why we have Triton up to 4k and Miranda, for example, only 1k?I wonder if their images haven?t been published. When you see a Astronomy book, you look to greater wealth of details in Saturn, for example, than what Celestia can provide.Where are the spots in Saturn?I really don?t understand...
