Feature request: Multiple objects in a single listing

Post #1by JackHiggins » 12.11.2003, 00:20

This is something that's been annoying me a bit recently!

I've got my galileo xyz trajectory, and the model changes (currently 4 times) over the duration of the mission. To do this, i have to make 4 seperate ssc-xyz listings, with matching beginning/ending times. Unfortunately when I do this, I get 4 listings in the Solar system browser for galileo, and 4 listings when I press "Enter" and type in "Galileo".

Is there any way to allow multiple instances of a model to be merged into a single listing? Maybe a matching code number or something, and each definition with this code number would only get one listing. Or if two or more objects in the same ssc have the exact same name/orbit (Like "Galileo" "Sol") they ould be merged together in 1 listing)

I don't want to have 10-15 listings for galileo when i'm finished with all the changing models...!!! :D

Sorry Jack but why you'll need 15 different models of the Galileo?
Does the shape of the probe change during the mission?

Yeah- if you go down to #19 on this page and there's a couple of different galileo models. If you install the ssc patch as well, and follow galileo during the mission, you can see it change as the HGA attempts to open, and the probe is deployed.

As an extra addon to the big galileo xyz, i'm planning on making lots more models to produce something like "animation" as the IUS seperates, and the booms open & unfold at the start of the mission!

Another though- maybe just an option to hide an object's listing from the browsers?

Code: Select all

HideListing True

etc?

Since they're all in the same place, you only need one of the objects to show, so hiding the rest would work too!

I think that this is not the most elegant way to approach the problem.

Some time ago Chris was looking for a new format for 3D meshes with internal animation capabilities.

The actual 3DS format has limited animation capabilities.

I think that the max format should be suitable. With this format you will be able to store in a sigle file all the animations that actually you are planning to implement for Galileo probe.

But unfortunately I don't know if Chris has decided something about this argument.

Bye - Paolo.

Well okay yeah- but since I hadn't heard anything more about the new model format for ages, I thought this might be an easier solution...

Ahh, but what do we do if we don't have 3ds max?!

Just an idea anyway, it's nothing major... Hopefully it'll be sorted out some time soon!
