How do I use dds files and can I use them as a bumpmap and/or cloudmap?

Assuming you know how to replace the textures with new ones,
just treat DDS files the same as JPG's or BMP's

DDS is just another file type with a different compression.

But you will need a Geforce 2 Video card or higher to be able to view them.

And yes you can use Bump maps and Cloud maps in DDS
CPU- Intel Pentium Core 2 Quad ,2.40GHz
RAM- 2Gb 1066MHz DDR2
Motherboard- Gigabyte P35 DQ6
Video Card- Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS + 640Mb
Hard Drives- 2 SATA Raptor 10000rpm 150GB
OS- Windows Vista Home Premium 32

Hi Cereb,
If you want to see DDS (DirectDrawSurface) files outside of Celestia, they can't be viewed with Windows Picture viewer or Paint, there is a handy thumbnail viewer free from NVidia (only220k) that integrates with the common task panel on the left of your window where you would see jpegs etc. in thumbnail view. Unfortunately it seems to have problems with 16k files, I use XNview http://www.xnview.com which can show lots of file types, and in browser mode displays in a range of thumbnail sizes, and is a nice program to use, sadly it can't convert to DDS, but is only 2.67mb so is worth having as a viewer at least, hope this may help you,
regards Ziggy
