I have downloaded an updated galaxies.dat file but it seems not to work (I see only 5 galaxies from aprox.1600). Do I have to change any file names (eg. in celestia.cfg)?
I use celestia 1.3.1 (pre11)
need help with galaxies
That's the problem! I haven't got an older galaxies.dat. How could the .exe refere to one file that it hasn't been linked to? (so I took a gues an I added a line in the celestia.cfg -> GalaxyDatabase "data\galaxies.dat").
(I can't n neither see asteroids belt and messier objects).
could you look in your celestia.cfg and see how galaxies are declared (galaxydatabase or something)
thanks superdave

It sounds like you are using an obsolete format.
galaxies.dat was written for Celestia v1.2.4 and 1.2.5. It cannot work with Celestia v1.3.0 and later. You need to use .DSC (Deep Space Catalog) files instead.
Updated galaxies files are available at http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/catalogs.html
I hope this helps.

Selden
and that solves the problem
Thanks Selden! It works. I've downloaded the galaxies.zip from your site, and now I can see "the rest of the Universe"!
