John,

It looks like a great start, but...

a) Since the opening page uses light colored text, it needs to have a dark default background. It's very hard to read the words against the white background. You have to allow for people who disable downloading of images.

b)Disabling of downloading of images (except for those explicitly selected by the person browsing the site) will happen because the backdrop image takes forever to download. A much smaller image file would be better.

Remember that if it's successful, there will be many people accessing the site. It needs to be as efficient as possible. Network traffic needs to be minimized, with as few separate network operations as possible and each one made as short as possible.

c) the login procedure rejects valid addresses. In particular, it won't accept a "+" (plus sign) in the username part. This is a serious bug which must be fixed before I can use the system. You'll probably need to contact the Geeklog development team.

I hope these suggestions help.

It helps I wasent shure about using the glass skin or a hack of xsilver .What i was going for is something that is visualy eye catching and would keep the atentshion of 6th - 12th graders .The fact of turning off the background image did not accure to me .

one big question is do we want people to login or not . curently only posting in the fourm, and posting a story requiers being loged in .

the + in the name ???? i have on idia about that one ,it's new to me

John,

I'd guess about half of the Web sites that I've tried to use which require email addresses don't realize that a + is valid. I use it to tell me what Web site gave out my address. I also use it on my own Web pages so I can tell what Web page someone was looking at when they sent a message.

As for logging in, I'd suggest making it very clear that it's only needed for accessing the forums and posting. I think it'd probably be much less confusing if you could take it off the home page and show it only on the forum and posting pages.

Does this help?
