Hi Jestr,

Jestr wrote:I've tried at level9 but the Earth seems to disappear entirely.

Do you have Celestia 1.3.1pre11 installed ? Celestia pre9/10 supports only up to level8 and exact this happens what you say if you try higher levels.

Nice work but is it really correct mapped ?

As far as I can tell it is adjusted to fit with Blue Marble positioning. The detail comes from ariel photos at Multimap.com,and I think maybe reds are oversaturated, not much tho',cheers Jestr

  • Right click on the picture & pick properties
  • Copy the address
  • Put it in the address bar of your browser
  • Remove the "http://www."
  • Leaving only "geocities.com/jestrjestr/images/Bridgwater1.jpg"
  • Hit enter/return.

Geocities sucks. there are some much better free web hosts out there than them.

Cheers for the link to multimap.com Jestr, I've been trying to find a site with decent free aerial images of the UK. I've managed to zoom in on my house without any difficulty! Just a bit of a shame there's most of Scotland missing ( I wouldn't mind seeing Ben Nevis and Loch Ness) and parts of Wales too.

I must say your screenshots look pretty cool, what is the map scale for level 10 ? I notice they go up to 1:5000.

To find a specific area in the multimap.com site it, asks you to enter the area post code that you want to look at. I guess this is the equivalent of the US zip code?

My house address obviously has a post code, so I entered it and it took me to the aerial view of the small area of my post code.

I zoomed in to the 1:5000 detail and used the bigger image feature and sure enough I could see my house. It isn't a crystal clear image but I can definately see it.

multimap

I used the 1;25000 scale for my map,as I think it has the same detail as all the maps of lower scale-they just enlarge them as you zoom in.But even so it took me a couple of days assembling the 500 or so maps necessary for each tile.So far I have done tiles for south west England and the midlands-but I hope to do more eventually.Yes it's a shame much of Scotland is missing, also parts of the tiles that I have done had small areas where there were no photos at the required detail so I had to fall back on the lower detail ones to fill the gaps,I can make this available to download ,but it will be a while before I have all England done-cheers Jestr

Yes I have only managed to find ariel phots for Britain (not even all of that) on the Multimap site-maybe you should try 'mapquest.com' for America though the colours look a little washed out.All the best Jestr

OK StarLion it's done.I've only converted from JPEG to DDS DXT1 though so they wont be any better quality than the original JPEG's,and they are quite a bit bigger in file size than the JPEG's so I'm not sure how long they'll take to load.I only have JPEG version of Earth VT levels 0-5 so I cant easily test these levels in DDS.Let me know how it goes. Here's the link-
