It's probably a stupid question, but how do I get celestia to work?
I unzipped the package and I presumed I would just have to use the 'start' icon. But this has one of those Quicktime pictures as an icon. When I open it it says 'This is not a file that quicktime understands'.. Now what? I tried some different icons but none om them start celestia, so could you guys help me?
Please excuse any bad English and thanks in advance.
(btw: i'm using W98 (not SE!) )
Celestia doesn't run!
Double-click on the Celestia.EXE icon. That's the one that has a picture of Jupiter and Io.
You also need to change the association of .CEL files so they run Celestia, not Quicktime: hold down the Shift key and the RightMouseButton. Select the Open With... menu item. Browse to Celestia. Check the box that says to always use this program.
These are standard Windows operations. If you haven't already done so, you should consider investing in a copy of the book "Windows 98 Annoyances"

Arowana,
The full Celestia package for Windows is distributed as a 11MB EXE file which is an installation program. It is not distributed as a ZIP file. I assumed you were being careless in your description. Sorry.
Exactly what is the name of the ZIP file you have and where did you get it?
Sometimes beta-test prerelease versions of Celestia.exe, the main program, are made available in ZIP archives. They are useless without the previous prerelease, which would have been made available as a full distribution kit. Various prerelease kits can be downloaded from http://www.shatters.net/celestia/files/
I'd suggest downloading and installing the "medium resolution" 11MB v1.3.0 official distribution kit, which is available at http://www.shatters.net/celestia/download/
The "standard" Windows distribution kit is celestia-win32-1.3.0.exe
Alternatively, you can download that or a "low resolution" 5.5MB version of the v1.3.0 kit from SourceForge. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21302 provides a selection of current and older distribution kits for MacOS, Linux and Windows.
Does this clarify things?

And the attempt to help was by me. I'm trying out Firebird (which works very well) and forgot to setup the auto login.
The correct link to the Shatters download page is http://www.shatters.net/celestia/download.html
but of course I can't edit the post above.
