I downloaded TIF Images for the Earth. I put it in the hires directory, but it doesn't work! How do I install it?

Please read the FAQ that's at the top of this forum.
Celestia only recognizes JPEG, PNG and DDS image file formats. You'll have to convert your images. Also, the images must be a power of 2 on a side. Please see http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/textures.html for more information.
