Problems with installing better textures

Post #1by PilotX » 23.09.2003, 12:28

Hello,

I have some problems with installing downloaded new textures for earth, moon and mars and so on. I copy the texture (moon4k.dds for example) to the hires folder and modify the solarsys.ssc. I try to understand the content but I don?t understand *g*.

Where is the filename for the hires texture?

-------
"Moon" "Sol/Earth"
{
Texture "moon.jpg"
# Texture "clem-moon-4k.jpg"
# Texture "moon.dds" <- Is this the place for the hires texture?
BumpMap "moonbump1k.jpg"
BumpHeight 0.7
Radius 1737.53
Oblateness 0.002

CustomOrbit "moon"
EllipticalOrbit {
Period 27.321661
SemiMajorAxis 384400
Eccentricity 0.054900
Inclination 5.15
}

Obliquity 23.45 # mean axis
EquatorAscendingNode 0.0 # mean axis
RotationOffset 38

Albedo 0.12
}

-------

When I press the R button twice to chance to hires nothing happens :-(

Can you help me?
Is my Graphiccard not able to handle DDS-Files?
I have a Winfast Geforce 2 Ti 64 MB

Thanks for helping.

Greets

If you want your new texture to be the default texture you see when Celestia starts?
Then put the new DDS texture into the medres folder, and change the texture line in the Solasys.ssc to read, EG: "Moon.dds"

If you want to leave it in the Hires folder and change to it when you want to?
Then edit the texture line to read "Moon.*"
And change texture with "Shift-R" (not R, R)

Pressing the "R" button changes to lores textures.
Pressing "Shift-R" moves back to the Medres textures.
Pressing "Shift-R" again moves up to the hires textures
