I have a situation where the "dark" side of Earth is a bright white - there is no texture, just bright white. Mars dark side also has no texture but is brown/red. And Saturn is bright blue all over. Other planets are fine.
Any thoughts?

A possibility is that your graphics card has simply run out of memory: that you're using too many, too large, surface texture images.
