Hi, yesterday I downloaded and installed celestia-win32-1.3.0.exe.
When I launch Celestia, it just breaks down after few seconds.
I have a GeForce 2 MX/MX 400, with nVidia driver 45.23 (newest) and DirectX 9.0b (OpenGL uses DirectX low level API). Current resolution 1600x1200x32 bit palette. My OS is Windows 2000 Pro UK SP2
The program seems otherwise to be very great. Very few times I succeded using it in 30 seconds before breakdown.
I would be happy for some hints
Regards Lars

Hi, someone please help, I would be so happy.
Best regards Lars

Lars,
Please download Celestia v1.3.1 prerelease 9 to see if this is a problem which has been fixed. The prereleases are available at http://www.shatters.net/celestia/files/
[added slightly later]
Be sure to install the new version of Celestia into a different directory. Installing a new version "on top of" an old version often causes problems.

Hi Selden, thanks for your tip. Unfortunately it didn't help.
I installed C 131p9 in another directory, started it and after few seconds I had the same error :
Application exception occurred:
App: (pid=1572)
When: 8/28/2003 @ 08:03:55.070
Exception number: c0000090
If the entire DrWatson log (approx 300 kb) are of interest I would be happy to email it directly to you.
Regards Lars

all is forgiven
It did help me though. thanks for the tip. the only (small) downside is that the default goto distance seems to have got closer. is this adjustable ? Earth now overfills my screen by default.
Lars,
Sorry, I don't do any of the coding, and don't understand the dump files.
I'm just an experienced user. One of the developers would have to investigate the problem.
Knight-gkla,
The newest versions of Celestia try to show a more accurate vield of view. They try to display a field of view which is proportional to the amount of space actually occupied within your own field of view by the window on your screen. When you run Celestia in a window on desktop, the field of view now is much smaller than the field of view shown when you run Celestia in full-screen mode. Unfortunately, even the full-screen field of view is slightly smaller than the previous default of 45 degrees.
Unfortunately, and I have to consider this a bug, the default distance after a GoTo hasn't been adjusted to compensate for this change in the field of view.

your set up seems the same as mine. i'm running XP on a PIII and the new pre9 works fine.
