OSX graphical weirdness

Powerbook 867MHz / 512mb DDR / ATI Mobility Radeon 9000

Getting constant framerates of between 7 and 15 frames per second, no matter what size of window I use to view Celestia. Switching render paths has no observable effect on framerate, but OpenGL Vertex mode causes strange problems:

The Moon has a multicolored pattern on it as if it was made by an amateur mapper in Quake 2 when colored lighting was new and hip. Earth also has this effect at a distance. Up close, random blue checkerboard pattern flickers across the Earth's surface.

Don't feel bad.

I see about the same frame rates on my Dual 1GHz G4 PowerMac with 512MB SDRAM and NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4600 128MB graphics card.

Time to buy a G5.

But seriously, as far as I know, no performance tuning has been done yet on the Mac OS X version of Celestia.

I also see the OpenGL weirdness. Don't know what's going on there yet either.

well i normally run celestia under red hat 9, so i don't really feel bad about it. i just wish it was physically portable like kstars.
