I put everthing back into the extras directory like I originally had it and it works just like darkmiss says it should.

Extras\
............bathymetry\Earth-bathymetry.ssc
...............................textures\
.............................................medres\Earth-Bathymetry.dds
..........................................................Earth-bump.png

The Earth-bathymetry.ssc defines the alternate texture. Both are not displayed simultaneously. In fact, if you exit celestia while an alternate texture is being displayed, then that texture will load on the next startup.

This is really handy. I like being able to organize these files in orderly fashion.

I'm confused by your reply above about displaying the Earth Bathometry texture. You suggest that by simply calling a different texture for Earth in the Extras folder, you can switch between them in Celestia by choosing alternative textures via a right-click. I thought you had to edit and insert an "AltSurface" command in the solarsys.ssc file in order to see an alternative texture in Celestia. Is that not necessary? I also thought that if you put another texture for Earth in an Extras folder, BOTH the regular Earth texture called in the solarsys.ssc file, and the "Extras" Earth texture called in the Extras ssc file would display at the same time, messing everything up. Is that not true?

No Kris the normal earth texture in the medres folder is used as normal.

But the Bathymetry earth has its own SSC file that tells Celestia to use it as an alternate texture
and the texture file has a diferent name anyway (earth-bathymertry.dds)

Celestia 1.31 can use textures from the Extras folder now
Like this...

Extras\
Extras\Add-on name\Add-on name.ssc
Extras\Add-on name\Models\Model.3ds
Extras\Add-on name\textures\medres\texture.dds

Jim another small tip for you
is to put --fullscreen at the end of your shortcut target, for Celestia
and the program will startup in full screen

Hello & Welcome Jrzy,

would it be possible for you to change your image signature stopping it blinking for example ? That would be nice for me because when i read threads with some of your message it's really disturbing to have this blinking image.

Thank you very much.

No problem. I guess I didn't realize it was so distracting. I suppose I'm just use to it. I will replace it forthwith! ;)
