M8 : Lagoon Nebula

Hi all,

Here's a preview of my new add-on Nebula (I can't stop working for Celestia) : the Lagoon Nebula
As I got many information about the star cluster NGC6530 inside the nebula (actually in the foreground), you will get it with my add-on release.

Nebulae, always Nebulae !

You also have Dark Nebulae and clouds Names inside the Lagoon :

Yep, just tried, and looks astonishing... Nice done, c'est du beau travail ;-)

Without the star incorporated, it would be perfect...

Thank you for your encouragements, it is more motivation for me.

Without the star incorporated, it would be perfect...

I tried to delete the stars in the picture because, you know, as the nebula is not a perfect flat model, there are some minor distorsions of the picture and mismatchings when seeing from earth stars and nebula together.
The main problem when using a clone tool for erasing the stars is that the job is never perfect enough from my point of view.
Maybe you can help me ?

I think the mapping projection on the model could be done differently to prevent distortions, but I'm using Anim8or and functionnalities are very limited.
Any idea or advice ?

That's a pleasure to have the opportunity to (maybe) help you...

The first pic it's yours, the second one is a little bit reworked. It's no more 100 % accurate, since I don't know what is exactly behind the stars... In my opinion, the change is not visible. But you judge, that's your work.

If you like it, I'll finish the texture... but it'll lack stars ! Maybe the rass' cluster generator could help...

I have always used the clone brush....and it is unfortunately the best way to remove the stars...

I would like to see these worked into a less flat 3d model...At some point if you like I could build a 3ds for these textures...
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

Hi Rass,

I don't use the clone tool, but an alien's photoshop plugin.

I swear !, that's an alien way, named "Alien skin image doctor" ;-)

A lot kicker than clooning, and a lot easier. But wait, that's still a lot of time... :?

There could be a way to anylise the pixels in such a way to get the computer to recognise the stars as 'defects' in the image and correct them by masking the surrounding pixels and blending them together; sort of a collapse tool....

I wonder if photoshop released a sdk for writing plugins...or if such a plugin could be programmed in the gimp...

This could be done by using the clone brush and all segments that matched that formation of pixels could be 'erased'...

I think I'll have to consider the stars removing now, you convinced me.
You can see the job I did with the M20 Nebula (new add-on dated 2003/07/15)
1 day long for removing all stars only !!!!
(finished at 4 in the morning!)

I'd like to see my picts into a less flat mesh too, Rass !
Help accepted since I miss artistic modelling.
