Be kind to Mac users...

An incredible program. I use it frequently on my 933 mhz G4 at full screen and see at least 40 fps... truly awsome. Is there any chance for an upgrade on the Mac version? It sure would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mac port

Post #2by Matt McIrvin » 04.05.2002, 02:00

My impression from past statements is that Bob Ippolito's modifications for Mac OS X support got incorporated into the main trunk a while ago, so bringing the port up to 1.2.4 shouldn't be too hard for him or someone else with the requisite dev tools-- just get the thing to build and fix any Mac-specific regression bugs that might have shown up, which are likely to be small. I'd do it myself if I knew more about this stuff...

I think that I got all of Bob Ippolito's changes in . . .

Also, I ordered a PowerMac G4 system that should arrive early next week, so I'll be able to take on some of the OS X development myself. I'm going to look into adding a real OS X interface, but given my limited time lately, it may take awhile :>

Heck, if you just get it to the point where it's building as a GLUT app from a ProjectBuilder project, I'd be happy to add a Cocoa UI to it -- I've got plenty of time and motivation for the latter, just not for the former. :)

Celestia on a Power Mac

Mine just arrived today... 1Ghz dual. I got the Radeon 7500, having been freaked out by the bug reports about the GeForce 4MX (sorry, Chris) and noting that the 4Ti option doesn't seem to exist.

Just thought you might like to know that although the Radeon doesn't support the more exotic rendering features of Celestia, the thing runs perfectly and at blazing speed.

I got mine on Tuesday, with the GF4MX, but just the single processor 933MHz. Celestia is running great on it . . . It was a pretty amazing thing to see the rendered images displayed exactly like on a PC. It makes me realize just how successful OpenGL is as a cross-platform API. I can't think of another API which runs on as many platforms and as well as OpenGL does.

I installed the developer tools this morning . . . I can't wait to go play with them some more after work.
