THIS IS AN AWESOME PROGRAM!!

was trying to get '0 gravity hang' of the syntax...and started with the jovian rings system....so here is the texture i used, if you would like it...and the color settings that i could both match scientifically and aesthetically!

here's my settings....

Rings {
Inner 117524
Outer 124220
Texture "jupiter-rings.png"
Color [0.78 0.67 0.25]
}

am gonna 'do' neptunes rings and ring fragments very soon...

also thinking bout 'ringin' the astrode belt according to it's statistical dispersion soon...

ONE THING THOUGH!
what makes the rings transparent?
is it rgb(0,0,0) or is it just saving the texture at a forground image?
(that's what i did with jupiter's...but uranus' seem completly transparent... and pointers greatly appreciated!)

YOU PROGRAMMERS ARE GREAT!!!!

:P

oops....will get the texture here shortly....

here it is...

i would like to render this rings system "like a defused fog" then concentric lines, considering it's made from IO sulfer....let me know...!

Its saving as a foreground image...If you use adobe, you can make a ring tex by starting with 2 colors...black and white! Draw your rings across the tex and add the filters as you see fit...i.e. blur and what not. Use the color range option under the select menu...with white as your primary color and make the range 200...well as high as you can get without the black getting light. with that done copy, create a new window of relitive size and paste. You can adjust contrast and brightness as well to give it more of a dark appearence. You should then save as a PNG file to preserve your transparency...and your set...

But I suspect you already know all that...Uranus, I ended up using Saturn's rings to render those...I think the uranus-rings file was missing?

thanks pal...im using corel...
was thinking it must be saving as a transparency...but whenever i try to save the mast or lens it says "combining all images to background"...i know i can do it...perhaps ill read a book on corel!

thats!!!

tah tah

-k

'nother question, creating the 'bumpy planets' and astroids...can i use any cad or programs like MATLAB or MAPLE?

and if so...a certain extension for saving i suspect....

and one more thing....with venus...can a planet contain a 'planet within'...what i mean by this is...can i create a 'planet' just slightly larger then the surface of venus and map a somewhat transparent cloud cover (say 5% transparent or so...)...then under that map the surface of venus to the 'real' venus?

IS THAT POSSIBLE?

and can one 'ring' the sun? havent tried yet...

oh yeah...one more thing...am ill go!
entering missing binary data for stars...
if i cannot access the star data...do i just enter the binaries like they are planets?

okay...more then enough questions!
thanks for the replay!!! 8O

Ok, well stars I'm pretty sure can't have rings...but with a little magic, you can make a planet come pretty damn close...

This one shows the limits on the look though...

so i traded it with this look instead...

Cool idea, maybe chris might add a way to edit your own stars in the next release...

I just rewrote the star renderer so it uses the same code as the planet renderer. There's an internal 'emissive' flag that's used to turn off shading when rendering stars. I'll expose this in the next version so that you can make a planet that looks like a star. Such a feature could also be useful for rendering brown dwarfs.
