Peregrine Mission One

Post #122by DaveBowman2001 » 16.01.2024, 07:47

cover_image.jpg
Astrobotic's Peregrine Mission One is a lunar lander selected as the first of many missions under NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. Launched during Vulcan Centaur's maiden flight on 2024-Jan-8, it is supposed to make the first US lunar landing since Apollo 17 in 1972, however a fault occurred shortly after separation from the rocket, and the landing attempt had to be abandoned. It reentered the Earth's atmosphere just 10 days later, on 2024-Jan-18

NOTE: I left a commented SSC code that depicts Peregrine landed successfully on the Moon's Sinus Viscositatis site, where it was planned to land there on 2024-Feb-23 for those who wanted to see this spacecraft landed on the Moon on your Celestia

Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM)

Post #124by DaveBowman2001 » 09.02.2024, 12:36

Untitled.jpg
The Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) is a Japanese lunar lander that was launched in 2023-Sept-6 alongside the XRISM observatory. Its main purpose is to demonstrate precision landing within 100 m of its target site. On 2024-Jan-19, although it had problems during the final descent, it survived a relatively rough landing near Shioli Crater, making Japan the fifth country to land successfully on the Moon.

Oh I see. Uploaded a fixed SSC file on the original post. Both spacecraft and its (derelict) duplicate diffuse have the same coordinates now. Thanks!

Dream Chaser (2024)

Post #129by DaveBowman2001 » 17.02.2024, 10:14

cover_image.jpg
DC-101 (Tenacity) in low Earth orbit

Sierra Space's Dream Chaser is a reusable spaceplane capable of delivering cargo to and from the International Space Station and its future successors, like the Axiom and Orbital Reef stations. An indirect descendant of NASA's cancelled HL-20 project, it was originally intended to carry a seven-person crew into LEO, but this capability will be implemented after the cargo variant becomes operational, tentatively scheduled for launch on June 2024

NOTE: The current designs for the crewed version of Dream Chaser is identically the same as its cargo variant externally. For the original 2014 concept, see Endeavor35's Dream Chaser (2014) add-on instead

IM-1 moon lander (updated mesh/textures!)

Post #130by EarthMoon » 24.02.2024, 17:34

IM-1 (other names: Intuitive Machines 1, TO2-IM, Odysseus) is a moon lander that launched on 15th February 2024, at 06:05 UTC and landed on 22nd February 2024, at 23:24 UTC near the Moon's south pole. During landing it tipped over, but it is still intact. (Read More)

IM-1 launched on 15th February 2024, at 06:05 UTC

Model/Textures: https://www.orbiter-forum.com/resources/nova-c-lunar-lander.5552
Converted from .msh to .obj, .3ds and then to .cmod with https://github.com/BMCDad/orbiter-blender and Blender

The spacecraft is visible in Celestia until 4th March 2024 (planned mission end).

Known problems:
- The spacecraft "teleports" to the surface after the XYZV trajectory ends. That is a problem with the Horizons System which I cannot fix for obvious reasons.
- The spacecraft "floats" above the moon's surface. That is a problem with Celestia's mesh quality of spheres.
- The spacecraft's model is heavily simplified and looks different than the original. There were no free models available on the web, so I had to create one myself. This is fixed now! (Thx Limax7!)

Hubble Space Telescope

Post #137by DaveBowman2001 » 25.04.2024, 14:30

cover_image.jpg
Hubble on its present-day configuration, 2002-Present

The Hubble Space Telescope is an optical space observatory that was launched into low Earth orbit in 1990 and remains in operation today. It was serviced and upgraded by five shuttle missions from 1993 to 2009. This add-on is released in honor of its 34th launch anniversary (April 25th)

cover_image.jpg
Hubble with its original solar arrays, 1990-2002

WHAT'S NEW?
- Original add-on by Jestr
- Two versions of solar panels (original and modern) are included. Both are capable of suntracking. The original panels were first published on NASA 3D Resources (a huge thank you to pedro_jg for providing the link to me during development!)
- Foldable high-gain antennae and telescope cover to allow launch configuration inside the payload bay of STS-31 (Discovery)
- The Soft Capture Mechanism (installed during STS-125 on May 2009) is now attached to Hubble to allow hypothetical dockings with Crew Dragon, Dream Chaser, Orion, etc. Once again a huge thank you to pedro_jg for extracting the SCM model from NASA-VTAD
- Replaces the old Hubble Servicing Missions (1993-2009) add-on entirely

The Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) is a NASA space telescope launched aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia during STS-93 by NASA on July 23, 1999. Observing the universe primarily in x-ray light, it is the third of the Great Observatories launched, after Hubble and Compton. Its mission is still ongoing as of 2024

NOTES
- Original add-on by toutatis
- Chandra now has an IUS-attached version to depict its launch configuration during STS-93 (Columbia)

Dragonfly "flying" on Titan. Click to view GIF animation

NASA's Dragonfly is a future space mission to send a robotic rotorcraft to fly above the surface of Titan. Scheduled for launch sometime in July 2028, it is expected to arrive on Saturn's largest moon around 2034 about south of Selk Crater, which is 800 km north of Huygens's landing site. It will be the second powered extraterrestrial aircraft ever built after Ingenuity

This add-on features moving propellers to simulate "flight" above Titan. Many thanks to Sirius_Alpha and SpaceExplorer for providing information regarding this mission's current landing site!
