Kes 75

Post #61by Trolligi 112477 » 04.12.2022, 09:00

This addon adds Kes 75, a supernova remnant with a pulsar wind nebula inside. The central star is PSR J1846-0258 (also the youngest known pulsar in the Milky Way I believe), which was actually found to be in a binary with a possible Wolf-Rayet star in the PWN. The paper which suggested this dropped very recently, just 17 days ago. https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2022arXiv221108816S/abstract

The file starts with pv as to not break when the pulsar catalog is present.

Obscure red supergiant stars

Post #62by Trolligi 112477 » 04.12.2022, 11:56

The following addon (just one stc file) adds many (perhaps a few dozen idk) obscure (blocked by dust) red supergiants in the Milky Way.

This is an addon for the Barnard 335 molecular cloud, with its central protostar.

Cepheus Flare

Post #68by Trolligi 112477 » 23.07.2023, 16:21

This addon, which I have been working on for the past two months, adds the entire Cepheus Flare region. It is a huge complex of molecular clouds which are all forming stars and are all located about 330-370 parsecs away from Earth, in the constellation of Cepheus.

The star-forming regions included are:

    NGC 7023 (Iris Nebula)
    L1148-1158
    L1177
    L1217/L1219
    L1221
    L1228
    L1235
    L1251

And a few very small ones with one or two stars

More Microlensers

Post #69by Trolligi 112477 » 06.08.2023, 10:21

This addon contains quite a lot of objects discovered via microlensing, including:

About two dozen stellar mass black hole candidates
    3 rogue planet candidates
    Several neutron stars
Several binaries, including a neutron star-K star binary and a candidate binary black hole
And a lot of other stuff

Leo A

Post #72by Trolligi 112477 » 29.08.2023, 15:14

This addon, which I've been waiting to do for a very very long time, adds many many real stars in the Leo A dwarf galaxy, mainly some of the most massive and brightest stars in the galaxy. It differs significantly from LukeCEL's Leo A addon, in that it adds clusters and nebulae, and it also uses an updated distance for Leo A, which will become default once galaxies.dsc is eventually updated (or when replace/modify functionality is added to dsc objects).

I cannot thank Gurren Lagann enough for giving me the stcs from the various VizieR catalogs, which is absolutely necessary for this addon. I couldn't have possibly done all of this manually.

For the full experience, head to galaxies.dsc in your Celestia download and change Leo A's code to this:

Code: Select all

Galaxy "Leo A:DDO 69"
{
        Type  "Irr"
        RA            9.99068333
        Dec          30.74639
        Distance   2933768.731
        Radius          2082.29291
        AbsMag        -11.51
        Axis    [  0.9542  -0.2145   0.2087]
        Angle     99.0152
        InfoURL  "http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/sim-id.pl?Ident=Leo A"
}

Changelog:
Spoiler
2023/8/29 - Released addon
2023/12/21 - Re-positioned everything due to new distance value - added some new stars

Pleiades Cluster

Post #73by Trolligi 112477 » 03.10.2023, 15:30

This addon adds the Pleiades Cluster (at least its most luminous stars), thte surrounding nebulosity, as well as the brow dwarf Teide 1. I made this with the help of Lux H.M.T., who made the initial addon with just the nebulosity.

I assumed that the distance between us and the Pleiades cluster is 135.74 parsecs (found in some very recent paper which I forgot the link to, I'll link it later).

AFGL 4106

Post #74by Trolligi 112477 » 19.10.2023, 14:19

This addon adds AFGL 4106 (also known as HD 302821), a distant binary star composed of a red supergiant and a post-RSG yellow supergiant/hypergiant. They are surrounded by a small circumstellar nebula, made of dust that was ejected in a recent high-mass-loss phase of the yellow supergiant.

Credits go to:
- CubicApocalypse for his stellar wind model
- Nussun for her new red supergiant texture and model which I used

IRAS 00500+6713 and Pa 30

Post #75by Trolligi 112477 » 13.11.2023, 18:30

This addon adds IRAS 00500+6713, also known as Parker's Star, a unique star which is currently the only known remnant of the elusive Iax supernova. Located about 7,500 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia, IRAS 00500+6713 is in fact the stellar remnant left behind by the supernova SN 1181, a zombie star of sorts.

IRAS 00500 is one of the hottest known stars, with an effective temperature of nearly 240,000 K and a stellar spectrum resembling that of a WO-type Wolf-Rayet star. IRAS 00500 has a small nebula surrounding it, known as Pa 30. However, IRAS 00500 is very short lived, and it's predicted to explode again within 10,000 years.

Credits go to:
- CubicApocalypse for his stellar wind model which I used extensively

IRAS 12272-6240

Post #76by Trolligi 112477 » 18.12.2023, 14:55

This addon adds IRAS 12272-6240, or at least what I can infer from the paper describing it - https://arxiv.org/abs/2006.14692

IRAS 12272-6240 is a small star-forming region in the constellation of Crux, located about 30,000 light years away. It's very young and still shrouded in lots of dust. A few O-type stars and two very young star clusters have been discovered in IRAS 12272-6240.

Only 4 stars from this complex are in this addon, as for the other stars, I really can't deduce much that is of use for a Celestia addon.

IRAS 12272-6240. The stars should ideally be much dimmer due to local dust extinction but that's not something which exists in Celestia (yet)

Ursa Major III

Post #77by Trolligi 112477 » 21.12.2023, 17:20

This addon adds the newly discovered Ursa Major III, and its 11 brightest stars. Ursa Major III is incredibly small, just 19.5 light years across, and is about as bright as Altair. It's only predicted to contain a few dozen stars, and its total stellar mass is just 16 solar masses.

Leo A addon update

Post #78by Trolligi 112477 » 21.12.2023, 23:35

Updated the Leo A addon: viewtopic.php?p=161976#p161976

I moved everything in Leo A due to a new distance from a paper in october. https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2023ApJ...959...52U/abstract
I also added the stars described in that paper as well as an N-type carbon star

Dwarf Carbon Stars

Post #80by Trolligi 112477 » 31.01.2024, 22:20

This small addon adds 7 dwarf carbon stars, which are binaries comprising of a cool main-sequence star (usually a red dwarf) and a white dwarf. The main sequence star has very high carbon content due to mass exchange with its former carbon star companion, which has since then died and become its current companion white dwarf. The systems are:

G 77-61
LP 225-12
LP 758-43
SBSS 1310+561
SDSS J084259.79+225729.8
SDSS J101548.90+094649.7
