Sunlen, a fictional planetary system (IN DEVELOPMENT)

Post #1by SpaceExplorer » 22.06.2022, 00:22

I started the creation of a fictional planetary system. This topic will serve to show the development.

The system's star is called Sunlen, much like the Sun. The system is 1000 light-years away from Earth and will be based on our Solar System, but it will include some extra things.

Things planned:

- 1 star
- 10 planets
- 3 or 6 dwarf planets
- 20 asteroids
- 10 comets + various smaller debris
- Total number of moons around all planets and dwarf planets has not yet been decided.

Other things that may eventually be added:

- rogue planet, brown dwarf or mini black hole

- More asteroids, comets, debris or moons than originally planned.

- Interstellar objects.

Of course, developing all of this takes significant time.

I intend to create a comet that has shattered. Two large debris have already been added, and I will create many more smaller ones yet. All will share similar orbits.

welp, this is the 2nd largest known system (including fictions ones)
Cer in first place with 12 main planets
Sunlen is in 2nd place with 10 main planets
Solar system in 3rd place with 9 planets (counting planet 9 here)
than Kepler-90 with 8 main planets

wonder what kind of systems will come next, a 15 planet system???

so what caused the comet to shatter, hard collision with another comet or asteroid?

Ao Lai from Orion's Arm have a total of 21 planets, all Earth-like smacked on the star's habitable zone. And for the extreme, I think Anthony's Black Hole System has the most planets of all, reaching more than 500 worlds

@trappistplanets The comet would have broken apart after its nucleus was heated as it passed the star and an explosion occurred (similar to what happened with comet 73P/Schwassmann–Wachmann)

so than here is the new ranks for biggest systems

1:Black hole system (500+planets)
2:Ao Lai (21 planets)
3:Cer (12 planets)
4:Sunlet (10 planets)
5:Solar system (9 planets (counting P9)
6:Kepler-90 (8 planets)

I'm adding the asteroids. Some of them will be the Near-Terranion Objects (NTOs)

One of them will pass very close to Terranion.

I'm sure there are several other fictional systems with similarly large numbers of planets. For example, Gurren Lagann's Caloris system has a total of 28 planets, and the Ecotopia system in Orion's Arm has over 300 planets. See also this old thread (don't necropost though).

After almost an entire afternoon working with the system, there are already several new things added.

NEW PLANETS:

- Marsion, a Mars-like planet
- Jupion, a Jupiter-like planet

FIRST MOONS:

- 1 moon added around planet Venion

- 2 moons added around the planet Terranion

- 3 moons added around planet Marsion

NOTE: Moons do not yet have names.

OTHERS:

- 10 asteroids added (also no names)

- 3 more comet debris added. Adding to the 2 that I already had before, we have a total of 5 debris from a comet that broke apart.

ALTERATIONS:

- The Sunlen star had its position changed. Before it was in a random position in the sky. This has been changed, and now seen from Earth, it is in the direction of the Pleiades. The distance was also changed, from 1000 light years to "only" 90 light years away from Earth.

- Due to the closer distance to Earth, the star's magnitude also had to be corrected.

UPCOMING PLANS:

- Naming moons and asteroids.

- Add new asteroids, comets and debris.

- Add moons around the planet Jupion

- Add a new planet, similar to Saturn.

CREDITS:

- Some models used on the asteroids and moons were created by Snowfall-The-Cat, and prepared for Celestia by fyr02 and LukeCEL. Credits to all of them.

Models can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=20402

- Sunlen distance updated from 90 ly to 380 ly

- Five new planets added

The rings and auroras of the planets will be added in the coming days.

After practically a week without adding new things, today development resumed:

- Added Terranion night map (created by TheLostProbe)

- Added the "LunarLambert" parameter to all ten planets in the Sunlen system. Now the planets are much more realistic!

Added Jupion, Satunion, Uranion, and Neptunion auroras. Terranion auroras will be added in the future.

Added rings around all giant planets.

I'm starting to add the moons of the giant planets, after I solved a problem with the SSC.

7 of the 20 moons planned for Jupion have already been added. 2 are internal, very close to the planet and irregular, and 5 are large, spherical moons. Soon I will add 13 outer and distant moons of the planet, all irregular.

The system also already has 13 asteroids and 5 comets. One of the comets, as seen in the image below, passes very close to Jupion.

The moons and planets names sounds like names from solar system
Crew: "We are orbiting a black hole."
Control Center: "Do not fly too close to the black hole!"
Crew: "OH OOPS..."

1.6.3, 1.7.0 sRGB, 1.6.1 ED (plain)
