I can confirm this with the windows version. The videos are upside down. But it works normally with Linux.

Tomorrow I will try another build with ffmpeg. Got to work today.

Added after 26 minutes 20 seconds:
On Linux, my latest build has ffmpeg on. The reason Linux video works. On windows, last week I was building Celestia and installed it. All the translation folders got in installed on my D drive. My tools\vcpkg was also on D. When I cut the translation files into locale, the tools folder was also cut into locale. Anyhow I decided to start over and deleted the Celestia folder and start over. I walked away and started doing something else. When I came back, I realized that my tools folder got deleted. I had to rebuild vcpkg. The tools folder that was deleted had ffmpeg. The new vcpkg doesn't. I didn't build it yet because it takes hours. Tomorrow I'll try again.

The "rectangles instead of numbers" bug appears at this data types:

Distance (when it is in km?)
Radius
Surface temp (but NOT in temperature!)

nope. the shaders.log file doesn't have any errors. For some reason it contains a bit of garbage but that should not influence the program work. how did you install it?

Thanks for narrowing down the issue.

I don't know why you can't say how you installed it yourself, but okay... he first used cartrite's installer, then I sent him 32-bit binaries from GitHub Actions which he copied over the installed files.

Tomorrow while I am building ffmpeg I'll build the 32 bit vcpkg libs. Then there will be 2. I'm not sure how that converter works. But it seems like it has problems.

could it be one or more of those files or source code not getting along with files or source code in cartrite's installer's files?

I really doubt it.

Edit: I just tested the x86 binaries on top of cartrite's build myself, and I see no problems with lighting. So it's definitely not an issue of compatibility between these two Celestia builds. Makes sense, since they're both built from the same source code.

I hope you can find the cause. It wasn't present in the 2021.07.20 setup version.

Apart from the bugs the 1.7 version seems much more efficient and quick by the way.

I just uploaded a 32 bit version in viewtopic.php?p=156142#p156142 . This was built with ffmpeg on but it did not fix the video capture bug. I changed the file associations to connect to celestia.exe. So the file names cellestia-win or celestia-qt will have to changed to celestia.exe to get .cel or .celx files to work properly. This was suggested to me by Selden. The file associations will also be changed in the 64 bit version when I update it.

it looks like a character not found in the font with the encoding used. The rectangle is the replacement character. You have to check the font used in celestia.cfg and the fonts found in the 'fonts' folder

The problem is that the 2021-07-20 1.7 version works perfectly on my PC, without any rectangles. So I don't think that it is a font error on my part.

There's now a member on Discord who has this same issue with dark planets on 1.7.0. They're also on a 32-bit system.

Edit: issue opened.

I uploaded 32 bit version. Did you try that.

On another note, I'm seeing a problem with the cmake build system and ffmpeg. I turn it on in the cmakfile.txt and even include an -DENABLE FFPEG=ON in the configuration command. But it still uses avi. So when I thought I uploaded a 32 bit installer with ffmpeg on, apparently it wasn't.

On 1.7.0 Windows, the Crew/Cargo Dragon 2 models were inexplicably black.

I'm going to look at it. It's a long shot but maybe I'll get lucky. It seems as if the video is being saved in reverse. I'm not sure where that happens.
