I don't know, especially because I am also waiting for 2021 Jupiter data to come in.

Juno data would not be appropriate to use (on its own) for a global mosaic since the spacecraft really only observes narrow slices of longitude at high-resolution, making a pass once ever several weeks at which time the underlying surface changes considerably.

I recall a Juno map does exist, I can't seem to find it again though.

Regardless it is drawn over with text and labels and it's very low resolution.

I found this old screenshot of my Planet 9 addon from late March of 2018, using a texture from xftgamer on Deviantart (now deactivated), and I thought I would re-create it to show how far I've come:

As far as I know, this is the world's first global 64k Jupiter texture (partly AI generated, "Cupscaled"):

what "height map" are you using for jupiter, looks nice

i have 2 suggestions
1. make the thing in aprox natural color if possible (ask askaniy for help if needed)

2. add a atmosphere to the thing (prefer the one from project echoes (code below)

Code: Select all

Atmosphere
   {                     # upper clouds at 0.6 bar
      Height      1000
      Mie      0.0001
      MieScaleHeight   28
      MieAsymmetry   -0.15
      Rayleigh   [ 0.00095 0.00145 0.00298 ]   # from optical thickness 0.17 at 500 nm
      Absorption   [ 0.00033 0.00010 0.00001 ]   # total absorption 0.0301 0.0094 0.00002
   }

Added after 1 minute 9 seconds:
it will make it look nice (you can have the color enhanced one (the current texture unmodified) as a alt surface if you want too)

Thanks. It is just a smaller normal map version of the base texture, but I had to tweak the parameters.

Moon passing in front of Earth as seen by the DSCOVR satellite on July 16, 2015. The satellite is positioned more than 1.5 million kilometers from Earth (930,000 miles).
