That is funny that you mention that. I had to explain to him what Celestia was. But not to many people know of it, so I can't blame him.
I was just curious what he thought of it. I'm a bit of a fan too and wondered what he thinks about Celestia.

This may sound really dumb, given the amount of time between this post and the last, but I was curious to see how this all turned out.

https://i.imgur.com/RNAJH4Q.png this is where I got it, I found it on a deveintart page. I created the bump map using a bump genarator. I did make the image a bit more high quality using some stuff on powerpoint

The moons are just the texture for the exoplanet kepler 37b, I will be giving them new ones, the kepler ones are just a place holder

First thats a good map, I really like it, mind if I use it really quickly to see what changes I could make to my current map?

On your other comment, the book only calls it Darwin IV, there is no other name to it as far as I know. The stars are called Darwin A and Darwin B. The book and movie have a diffirent arrangement of the planets with the books version being more like kepler 16 and the movies version being more like an S type star system with Darwin orbiting "the habitable zone of the larger star" aka Darwin A, the F type star in the system.

yes

one thing you could fix is the poles, for some reson the maker of the first darwin iv didn't consider polar pinching on the poles so your going to get pinching

right away i see some issues with your norm map, poles look great but the equator mountains look a bit wrong, looks like the norm map filter you used assumed that the mountain shadows are lower then the surroundings
there shadows casted by higher fetures not albedo fetures

Added after 6 minutes 51 seconds:
and the way that map is projected looks a little funny too me, it looks like mercator
altho my map isn't that great in quality, you should use it as a place holder untill i can fix up this higher quality map

Added after 4 minutes 44 seconds:
oh god.. your diffuse your using is so messed up in alliment

Added after 10 minutes 39 seconds:
uh i can't fully fix your diffuse, there are modified parts in it and its not lining up with mine (unmotified other then fixed poles)

I would name the planet
Ligrum

Added after 8 minutes 8 seconds:
oh yeah... the clouds, i can contribute to darwin IV by doing a cloud map redo
i want to do a redo on Darwin IV's clouds because all renders including yours uses earth clouds and me seeing a full earth cloud map on extrasolar planet bugs the heck out of me
(you can alays edit earth clouds to a point that they bearly resemble earth's cloud system

Added after 22 minutes 10 seconds:
here, new clouds

Oh thanks

No, wasnt able to fix the polar pinching with it, I was able to fix the mountains and stuff

here is what it looks like, maybe we should add more clouds to the northern areas. Darwin IV has quite a lot of clouds, as indicated by the book and docu fiction, a good amount hover over the ameboic sea

Added after 15 minutes 51 seconds:

Here the cloud map is with the unedited textures

oh yeah Amoebic Sea
accorting to https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/speculativeevol ... dth-down/904?cb=20160405151715

i have the elevation of it incorrect

this is how the bump should look for Amoebic Sea

Added after 8 minutes 51 seconds:
here is the fixed cloud map with a very thunderstormy Amoebic Sea

(set cloud speed to 0 to keep the Amoebic Sea clouds over Amoebic Sea)

(my cloud map was made based off of my bump map so the clouds may not fully alline with your texture, altho you can attempt to fix the poles
and use my fixed up lower quality texture as a reference

this is what I ge using your bump map. Plus there is still polar pinching, Polar pinching doesnt bug me too much. Its just the clouds and the mountains. I guess your bump map is for your lower quality textures so let me give you mine

hmm
no matter how hard you try to fix polar pinching in a texture, celestia 1.6.1 has a issue where it still pinches the textures, its annoying

fine, i'll make a bump map from that texture

Added after 47 seconds:
i can fix some of the pinching in the texture itself though to reduce the ammount of it in the render

ugggg frustrated, i can't seem to recreate my bump map but on that texture, sorry
and your texture is so miss allined (not blaming you, blaming who made that map)
you could use that but no accurate height map and clouds not allining to the texture
or you can use my 1k textures ( download/file.php?id=10396&filename=Darwin+IV-bump.png&mode=view and download/file.php?id=10385&filename=Darwin+IV.png&mode=view )
so my clouds alline with the textures+ you get a realistic bump map

sorry that i am unable to recreate my accurate height map from your texture...

HANG ON i think i may know whats wrong with your diffuse map alliment, i'll fix it later
it appears the original maker of that map used one that was squished by the width and they added extra data onto it
