Normal developers publish their results for people. In order to in the future people can use, test and thereby help in development. The GPL does not require you to release your modified version, or any part of it. You are free to make modifications and use them privately, without ever releasing them. This applies to organizations (including companies), too; an organization can make a modified version and use it internally without ever releasing it outside the organization.
I agree with fyr on this.I will agree that Celestia.sci was deserving of attention and respect, as they implemented great things, like gravitational lensing and elliptical galaxy rendering.
However, the developers' bad attitude and rude responses to questions, along with continued unfounded promises of a beta release in the near future, causes the majority of the community to become skeptical of the project.
