Star textures
Star textures
A set of star textures I made in Grand Designer. There's an alternate A-class texture in there if you like starspots.

Ooof
the color of your gstar texture is to yellow
look at FGN's texture
its a whitish color
in reality g-type stars are white not yellow

There is a limit to how far we can travel into the stars.

All depends of your point of view... from Earth or from space ?

Oh those look quite epic! At first glance the colors look fine but maybe gonna experiement around a bit and adjust for spectral colors.
The texture looks quite good but a minor complaint id have is the scale of features around the mid main sequence is probably too big. The sun's granules are way smaller than that.

so that texture needs fixing

There is a little thing that apparently very few people are aware of nowdays.
Its a little thing called something like... What was it... Oh yeah, creative liberties!

Blue is for O and B type stars.

It did [presume domain knowledge], but that 'domain' was originally
comprised of astronomers doing photometry who would presumably
understand the system.

So in other words, descriptions of star colors often use Vega (a blue, A-type star) as the white point. Relative to Vega, the Sun is indeed yellow, but as we see it, it's white. Here is Mitchell Charity's page specifically on the color of the Sun. More recently, Askaniy has done some work on calculating colors from spectra, resulting in an even more white color for the Sun:
and of course, blue for Vega:

You're claiming that an H-R diagram with Vega-relative colors is a more authoritative source than Mitchell Charity's and Askaniy's work on spectra (which have been and will be used in Celestia)?
Edit: I could also just post a true-color HR diagram...

Yes !
Who does he know these two men ?
A google's search didn't give none result...
What are their last publications ?
Ignore the HR diagram and later you'll say that the Earth is flate...

I'm well aware of that, but that's the highest GD would let me set the noise scale. That scale also lets me tweak the granule noise without having to re-bake the texture every time, as GD only shows a low-res preview while you're editing.FarGetaNik wrote:The sun's granules are way smaller than that.
